Dadra & Nagar Haveli

The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is wedged between the highly industrialised cities of Mumbai, Surat and Vapi. From 1779 to 1954, the land was administered by the Portuguese colonialists and later, after its liberation, by a local administration until 1961 when it merged with the Indian Union. Silvassa is the capital of the Union Territory.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Bal Udyan: A park for children replete with swings, seesaws and merry-go-rounds. It also houses a mini-zoo with crocodiles, pythons and an aquarium of tropical fish.
Tribal Museum: The Tribal Museum at Silvassa is an attempt to preserve and portray the rich heritage of tribal culture and civilization in its pristine form. Vandhara Udyan: A magnificent garden with bright bougainvillea and lawns shaped into hexagons by lantanas or divided by dark green hedges of casuarina.
EXCURSIONS
Madhuban(10 Kms): The Madhuban Dam Project is built across the river Damanganga.
Vanganga Garden(10 Kms): An artificial lake has been created here, with a Japanese garden in the centre. Paddleboats are available in the lake and different species of fish have been introduced to popularise angling.
Tadkeshwara Temple, Brindaban (18 Kms): An old Shiva temple situated on the banks of the river Sakartod.
Vanvihar Tourist Complex, Khanvel (20 Kms): A beautiful verdant land with a Tribal Cultural Museum, a Cactii garden and a Deer Park.
